The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America (NSCDA) actively promotes our national heritage through historic preservation, patriotic service, and educational projects. Founded in 1891, it is an unincorporated association of 45 Corporate Societies with over 15,000 members. The Society headquarters is located at Dumbarton House, a Federal period museum in Washington, D.C. Membership is made up of women who descend from an ancestor who resided in an American Colony prior to 1776 and rendered service to our country during the colonial period either in the founding of a State or in an institution which has developed into importance; or who held an important position in Colonial government or who by distinguished services contributed to the founding of our nation.

A string of high rises adorn Milwaukee’s skyline where the Menomonee River meets Lake Michigan.

The Wisconsin Society has approximately 130 members who reside throughout the state. We are dedicated to the mission of the NSCDA to promote our national and state heritage through historic preservation, patriotic service, and educational projects. The Wisconsin Society owns and operates the Historic Indian Agency House, a museum house in Portage and furnishes the Kilbourntown House in Milwaukee. Both museums hold historical significance to the state of Wisconsin. We also seek to further patriotic education in elementary schools throughout the state and award scholarships to Wisconsin high school and graduate school students.
